- I have attended SPA since I was an anesthesiology resident, and I have presented three poster abstracts entitled: “Anesthetic Management of a 6-Year-Old Child With Family History of Malignant Hyperthermia Presenting for Resection of Wilm’s Tumor”, “Perioperative Management of Symptomatic Hyperthyroidism due to Graves Disease in a 10-Year-Old Child Presenting for Total Thyroidectomy”, and “Thermal Burn from Convective Warming Blanket in a Healthy 6 Month-Old Undergoing Cataract Extraction.” These poster abstracts were presented in years 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively.
- This year I will be a presenter at the SPA-AAP Annual Meeting on the topic of “Use of Opioids for Adolescents and Abuse Potential.”
- I have attended most SPPM meetings since its inaugural meeting in 2014 in Fort Lauderdale Florida when I was a pediatric anesthesia fellow. I have since attended the 4th, 5th, and 7th annual meetings. I have had one abstract presented by a trainee at the SPPM 6th Annual Meeting: “Bilateral Erector Spinae Catheter Placement for Postoperative Pain Control in a Pediatric Patient Undergoing Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantation on Systemic Anticoagulation: A Case Report.”
- As I have developed further in my career, I have had a strong desire to become more involved with the SPPM. I joined the Communications Committee and contributed to the trial of a SPPM Twitter journal club in 2018. I have submitted an article for the SPPM Newsletter in Fall 2018 entitled “Pain Measurement in Pediatric Patients: A Look at Functional Pain Scales.” I also submitted a Question of the Month for May 2020 about the impact of COVID-19 on pain care.
- At the 7th Annual Meeting in Nassau, Bahamas I participated as a presenter in the Basic Regional Ultrasound Workshop and also presented a PBLD with my good friend and colleague Dr. Rachel Zoffness on using the biopsychosocial approach to treat pain in Fabry Disease.
