Program Features: Children’s Hospital Colorado is a free-standing tertiary children’s hospital affiliated with the University of Colorado. Our busy regional service provides approximately 2000 central and peripheral nerve blocks annually, including a home catheter program. We offer 12 months of advanced training in pediatric regional anesthesia and acute pain that is structured as a hybrid faculty-fellow appointment equivalent to 0.5 FTE. Time will be divided between approximately 16 weeks of acute pain/regional, 4 weeks of chronic pain, 8 weeks of research/quality improvement/academic time, 20 weeks as a clinical instructor, and 4 weeks of vacation. The fellowship will provide learning opportunities through clinical experience, didactic instruction, and participation in research and/or quality improvement. Our goal is to create specialists uniquely qualified to plan and perform single-shot and continuous regional anesthetic techniques, and manage the peri-operative analgesic needs of both acute and chronic pediatric pain patients.

Quarterly block volume performed by regional team estimated at approximately 529 blocks, including 260 lower extremity (39 catheters), 199 neuraxial (16 caudal, 14 lumbar, and 29 thoracic catheters; 53 spinals), and 22 upper extremity blocks. Fellows are expected to participate in QI and clinical research. We have tremendous resources to support these effort with a Director of Research, a team of statisticians, and clinical research nurses. Our fellows have presented work consistently at SPA and ASA.
