Interdisciplinary Chronic Pain Treatment (ICPT) models of care use a biopsychosocial approach to treat pain and improve function for pediatric patients with chronic pain conditions. The ICPT Special Interest Group (SIG) is a professional home for providers from a wide variety of disciplines, including pediatric anesthesiologists, advance practice providers, nurses, psychologists, physical therapists, and occupational therapists. The goal of the ICPT SIG is to network and collaborate, promote research to determine best practices and identify common measures, and disseminate evidence-based information on clinical interventions for pediatric chronic pain to healthcare trainees and systems. The ICPT SIG also aims to develop new, quality-driven resources to educate the public about pediatric chronic pain treatment and improve patients’ access to care, with a specific interest in intensive interdisciplinary Pain Treatment (IIPT) programs for pediatric chronic pain rehabilitation.

Specific objectives of the ICPT SIG are as follows:

• Create a forum for the development of ideas and methods to improve collaboration among a wide range of clinical specialties in the field of pediatric chronic pain.
  • Promote participation of various specialties at SPPM meetings
• Outline, define, and monitor metrics and outcomes of IIPT programs nationally through collaborative research.
• Promote health equity by collaboratively monitoring chronic pain treatment outcomes as they relate to vulnerable and diverse populations and promoting prevention and intervention strategies that address disparities.
• Support the SPPM Education Committee regarding ideas for education programming on ICPT-related topics.
• Support institutions on developing their own ICPT and IIPT programs.
• Advocate for evidence-based pediatric pain programs by developing standards for ICPT programs and creating communications for member programs.
• Create and disseminate public materials to educate patients and families on IIPT and improve access to care.

The ICPT SIG strives to build a thriving, national/North American community among all interdisciplinary pediatric chronic pain providers to improve the science, quality, and access to care for children with chronic pain.
