Perioperative Gabapentin Usage in Pediatric Patients: A Scoping Review

Gabapentin continues to be used routinely for perioperative analgesia often as part of ERAS protocols. A new paper reviews the evidence via a scoping review.

A 19 year male is on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) with Buprenorphine maintenance daily. His current dosage is 6 mg of buprenorphine daily. He is scheduled for a NUSS procedure. As his AYA (Adolescent and Young Adult) Pain Doctor what would you advise the patient about his Buprenorphine perioperatively?

Introducing SPPM’s New Physiotherapy Liaison!

SPPM is honored to have Debra C. Patrizi PT, DPT, PCS join the SPPM Board as our physiotherapy liaison. Debra lives in the San Francisco bay area with her husband, two daughters, and three grandchildren. Her youngest daughter is a Pediatric Rheumatologist 3rd year fellow and works in the area of pediatric pain as well! Debra graduated from Northwestern and received her DPT from University of the Incarnate word. She has worked at Lurie Children’s in Chicago and what used to be Rehabilitation Institute in Chicago. She now works for Kaiser Permanente Northern California leading new initiatives of care for Pediatric Rehabilitation.  Welcome Debra!

New Website Launched by Australian Pain Experts, Youngpainhealth

 

A new website, Youngpainhealth, has been launched by a team of experts from Australia, with the aim of supporting young people’s musculoskeletal pain self-management and clinician co-care. The website was co-designed (design and content) with young people 16-24 years and clinical interdisciplinary experts.

Introducing SPPM’s New Psychology Liaison!

We are honored to have Dr. Alvina Rosales join the SPPM Board as our psychology liaison! You may remember Dr. Rosales from her excellent talk at our most recent meeting in Austin. ​​Alvina Rosales, PhD is a pediatric psychologist at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.  She oversees inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services in the Division of Pain Medicine and is Co-Director of the Inpatient Chronic Pain Rehabilitation Program, an intensive interdisciplinary pain treatment program. Dr. Rosales’ research focuses on pediatric pain disparities and pain-related social media. Welcome Dr. Rosales!
